2017 Fishing competition roundup

Although slightly down on entry numbers this year we had a record number of fish weighed-in at this year's Totally Vets Group (TVG) Fishing Competition and, despite a very low tide (there was a bit of dredging being done as boats went out), the conditions were perfect and the fish were certainly biting.

This year we created a "Most Average Snapper' class and there were well over 50 snapper that made it to the scales, the average weight being 2.7kg. There were buckets of blue cod, terakihi and gurnard, and we also saw a big hapuka and some notable kingies entered in the fish-of-the-day category.

Catch of the day
, awarded by Whanganui/Manawatu Fishing Club, went to Tony Haywood ‘Totally Addicted', Lady Angler went to Rachel Pettigrew ‘True Blue', and Junior Angler went to Hayley Baker ‘Sabre' - congratulations!

Once again we were extremely well supported by our sponsors who generously donated many fantastic prizes. Without the contributions from these businesses we would not be able to run such a successful competition and are tremendously grateful to them!  A huge thank you to Manawatu Nissan, Ethical Agents, Merial, Cooper Rapley, BNZ, AllanMcNeill, Spark, Virbac, NZVP/Idexx Laboratories, Alleva, Bayer, MSD Animal Health, Provet, LaVita, Mars/Nutro, Focal Point Cinema, Skellerup, Premier Breeding Services, Blackmore Group, Murray's Irish Bar, VetPack, PalmField Motors, Zoetis, Kaiwaka, Scott's Pump and Mower Services

As well as the 40 or more spot prizes given away, some valued at over $500, we were also able to generate a reasonable donation to be given to Whanganui Coastguard for helping to keep all our anglers safe which was great.  Lastly, a very big thank you goes out to Pam at Coastguard and to Brian Tapa at the Fishing Club for all his help in organising this event.

Hopefully 2018 will see us right with the same fantastic weather and fishing conditions and we look forward to seeing you all then!
