Totally Vets, Tararua Vets, and Levin & Horowhenua Vets have aligned with a reporting and consultancy company called CowSmart.

CowSmart helps farmers and veterinarians analyse and interpret the combined data from the wearable tech companies – Allflex, Halter, Cow Manager, Afimilk and Smaxtec, from MindaLive MyHerd CRV, and from the milk processing companies.
CowSmart provides multiple, visibly well presented and easy to understand reports generated through calving to the end of the AB mating period (all busy periods) and comes with the added commentary from your veterinarian.
“CowSmart helps dairy farmers take control of their animal monitoring data, transforming it into actionable veterinary insights to improve animal health outcomes and farm profitability”.
During calving there are multiple reports that track metrics such as health alerts, rumination curves and treatments to help identify which cows need extra care. Cows are also monitored in the lead up to mating and through mating – i.e. how well they are cycling, which cows aren’t cycling, submission rates, return rates, which cows are or are not getting mated and the impact animal health issues may be having on these.
There are a number of reports generated and if any issues are detected, there is usually time to put plans in place to rectify and then still follow progress from the following reporting. Following the final pregnancy test a comprehensive, final end-of-season report is generated that summarises the season, which helps generate strategies for the following season.
CowSmart helps you to make the most of your wearable tech investment.
6 week in-calf and empty rate gap calculators (calculated using a much lower milk pay out figure) puts a 1% improvement in empty rate as being worth $10 for every cow and a 1% improvement in 6 week in-calf rate at $4 per every cow – so worth it.
